Rs.250 Crore For Rainfed Area Development Authority

In order to ensure agriculture growth in the rainfed areas. Government has launched a new scheme on" Rainfed Area Development Authority" I 2011-12 as a sub-scheme under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). The scheme aims at offering quality of life of farmer’s especially, small and marginal farmers by offering complete package of activities to maximize farm returns. During the year 2012-13, Rs. 157.3 crore has been incurred under the scheme. An outlay of Rs. 250 crore has been allocated under the scheme for the year 2013-14.

The Twelfth Five Year Plan document focuses, on initiating a shift towards sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture, not only through National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) but more generally by laying emphasis on rain-fed areas and bringing about shifts of water-intensive rice cultivation from water-stressed North-West India to Eastern India.

This information was given today by Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Shri Tariq Anwar in a written reply to Rajya Sabha questions.
