Udupi: Taluk unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a signature campaign seeking food security to people here on Tuesday.
Balakrishna Shetty, member of the State Committee of CPI(M), said that nearly 1,200 people had signed the petition seeking food security at the Service Bus Stand here from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nearly 10,000 people had signed the petition in the district.
The signature campaign was a nation-wide initiative taken by the CPI(M) and Left parties. The petition would be presented to the Prime Minister by the national-level leaders of the CPI(M) and Left parties. The CPI(M) and the Left parties would collect at least 5 crore signatures for the petition . Mr. Shetty said that although the centre was planning to bring the National Food Security Bill (NFSB), it had divided the people of the country into those above the poverty line and those below the poverty line.
