Chandrappa was a successful farmer with six acres of irrigated land in Margonahalli village of Koratagere taluk. But his three sons have allegedly taken hold of the movable and immovable properties from him. He approached the police to seek help. As they did not pay heed to his appeal, he attempted suicide by consuming poison twice. However, he survived.
“As my attempt to end my life turned futile, I have approached the authorities to allow me to jump into fire,” he stated. According to Senior Citizens Welfare Act – 2007, leaving the parents abandoned is an offence which may result in jail sentence for the children, a senior lawyer said.
