PPSC despatches admit cards
Patiala: The admit cards for the main examination for the Punjab State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination, scheduled to be held from September 14 to October 10, have been issued and posted to the candidates. It was added that if any candidate did not receive the admit card by September 11, the candidate should visit the office of the Punjab Public Service Commission at Baradari Gardens, Patiala on September 12 (forenoon) with two passport size photographs along with photo proof of identity (along with a photocopy for office record).
Deputy EC holds meetings in districts
Amritsar: Deputy Election Commissioner of India J P Parkash on Wednesday held a high-level meeting with the officials from border districts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Kapurthala and reviewed the preparedness of the official machinery for the upcoming general assembly elections due next year. He checked out the rolls of the voters, the modifications carried out in the voters’ lists and the security scenario. State’s Chief Election Officer Kusumjit Kaur Sidhu was also present for the meeting. Parkash asked the senior officers not to leave the process of preparing the votes or their modifications to the lower staff, but keep a tab themselves so that there are no errors committed in the voters’ lists. He warned of strict action against the officials who shirked their responsibility.
Punjab to identify mentally challenged
Chandigarh: The process for identification and enumeration of mentally-challenged persons will soon be initiated in the state and a policy for providing treatment and care to them will be framed on the basis of information received. Vacancies of psychiatrists will be filled up as per requirement. The Health Department will facilitate all Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and District Hospitals for identification of mentally-challenged persons. Various cells will also be created for providing essential treatment to such patients.
Farmer dies in tractor-train collision
Kapurthala: A farmer was killed and two were seriously injured in a collision between a Jammu-Ahmedabad train and a tractor-trolly at an unmanned railway crossing near Khojewal village on Kapurthala-Ferozepur railway track in the afternoon. The accident took place at around 1.45 pm. The train dragged the vehicle around 0.5 km. The deceased farmer was identified as Sukhwinder Singh (40) while injured were identified as Jangi and Gulab.
