Arvind Joshi and his wife Tinoo Joshi, both 1979 batch IAS officers; M A Khan, a retired IAS officer; Babulal Agarwal, a 1988 batch IAS officer and two executive engineers were raided by the I-T department last year. Later, the department had attached at least 77 bank accounts of these officers and recovered crores of rupees worth of investment in properties and shares.
One of them had made at least Rs 250 crore worth of transactions in the capital market buying and selling equities. Bank details have been obtained in all these cases. Rs 2 crore in cash was recovered from the residences of these officers.
Enforcement Directorate (ED) has slapped charges against some of these officials under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The attachment of properties under PMLA will soon begin. It is alleged that the IAS couple, Arvind and Tinu Joshi, had amassed assets worth more than Rs 350 crore.
Joshi was principal secretary, jails and parliamentary affairs (MP) before he was suspended while his wife Tinoo was principal secretary, woman and child welfare development (MP). Chhattisgarh officer Babulal Agrawal was agriculture secretary.
