Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and many senior members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have used the term ‘Urban Naxals’ in public speeches to attack their opponents.
The Left Wing Extremism Division in the Union Home Ministry does not have any information on who are ‘Urban Naxals’ and where do they operate. This was revealed in an RTI application filed India Today TV.
This comes close on the heels of government’s reply to another RTI query in which it denied having knowledge about "tukde tukde gang".
Both these terms – Urban Naxals and tukde tukde gang – are frequently used by BJP leaders to describe a section of activists who criticise the Narendra Modi government and the RSS.
