Publication is expected to be released around July 21-22

The second volume of the Economic Survey will be released during the Delhi Economic Conclave around July 21-22, according to a senior official in the Finance Ministry, who added that the volume will also for the first time include historical data in downloadable Excel files.

The first volume of the Economic Survey, released a day before the Budget was presented in Parliament, contained two new ideas — the creation of a ‘bad bank’ to take over bank NPAs, and the establishment of a Universal Basic Income — mooted by Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian.

“The second volume is set to be released during the Delhi Economic Conclave, which should be around July 21 or 22,” the official said. “But first it must be presented in Parliament.”

The Monsoon session of Parliament will begin on July 17.

In an interview to The Hindu following the release of the first volume of the Economic Survey, Mr. Subramanian had said: “With the Budget and Survey dates being advanced, it makes less sense to review the year based on data for two quarters. When we do this later on in the year, we will have data for the entire year and you will have a full-blown backward looking review.”

“The second volume will take on the role of what earlier Surveys had as the first volume,” the official told The Hindu. “So, the first volume of the Survey this year was like a bonus.”
