GUNTUR: Subhash Palekar, inventor of Zero Budget Spiritual Farming, conducted an awareness programme on natural farming methods for farmers at KSPR Stadium in Narasaraopet on Tuesday. He exhorted farmers to opt for natural farming as it helps reduce their cultivation costs and achieve higher yield. He felt that ryot suicides due to debt burden could be checked by promoting natural farming in a big way in the country.

Indiscriminate use of fertilisers and pesticides would cause harm to environment, besides increasing cultivation costs. The Zero Budget Spiritual Farming helps farmers get good income as it minimises cultivation costs, besides preserving the fertility of soil. Rearing of cows is vital for natural farming, he said.

The State government has evolved a plan of action to promote natural farming in a big way. As part of the three-year action plan, 10 progressive farmers will be identified from each mandal in the State. A nine-day workshop on natural farming will be conducted for them. The progressive farmers will impart training to fellow farmers in natural farming in their respective mandals. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is keen on promoting natural farming to increase the productivity.

Subhash Palekar cleared the doubts of farmers pertaining to natural farming. A large number of farmers attended the programme. Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, Social Welfare Minister N Ananda Babu, MLA GV Anjaneyulu, District Collector K Sasidhar and others were also present.
