Ahmedabad: Of the state’s 6.04 crore people, nearly 3.57 crore do not work. Most of those who don’t hold a job handle household duties. These numbers emerge from the data of 2011 census.
Data indicates that job seekers account for only 3.57% of the 3.57 crore non-working population of Gujarat.
Thus the state has the lowest number of job seekers, in terms of percentage, in the country. According to officials, only 8.33% of India’s 72.89 crore non-workers are job seekers.
In Gujarat, only 12.22 lakh of the 3.57 crore non-workers are seeking jobs. Among the non-workers in Gujarat, the proportion of job seekers is highest in the Christian community (5.22%), followed by the Sikh community (3.81%). The number of job seekers is the lowest in the Jain community (2.81%).
According to data, 56.89% of the non-working population in Gujarat is either involved in household duties or is dependent. Data reveals that around 50.44% of the non-working population across the nation is engaged in household duties or is dependent.
