Raipur: Two girls, both aged three years, died after consuming milk given to them under a state government scheme in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh late Monday. Seven more children — two from the same village in Bijapur and five in Janjgir Champa district — were admitted to hospital after they complained of stomach ache and started vomiting. Their condition is reported to be stable.

“Ten children had consumed milk from an anganwadi centre at Ketulnar village. Four of them, later, complained of stomach ache and started vomiting. Initially, they were taken by their parents to local healers. While the condition of two of them improved, two girls died. Other children who had consumed milk have been admitted to a hospital as a precautionary measure. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to know the cause of death,” said Bijapur SP K L Dhruv.
