NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to provide any relief to the Centre on the issue of Aadhaar card.
Refusing to modify its earlier order that Aadhaar cards could not be made mandatory for availing social benefits, the Supreme Court, however, agreed to give an urgent hearing to the issue.
The top court posted the issue for hearing on October 22.
The Centre told the court that its LPG cylinder direct benefit transfer scheme would come to a grinding halt if subsidy transfer is not linked to Aadhaar card.
Consumers may have to buy LPG cylinders at market price till court decides the issue, the Centre said in the court.
