Traffic on Mathura Road remained affected for almost four hours as thousands of activists of Yamuna Bachav Yatra marched towards the Capital on Sunday. The march stopped just a kilometre ahead of the Delhi border. They are likely to enter Delhi on Monday.
“We were told that only 1,500 people will be allowed to go to Jantar Mantar. We have decided to move as per Delhi Police’s plan,” Singh added.
“We did not ask the yatris to stop at Faridabad. They may have decided themselves not to proceed towards Delhi,” a Delhi Police officer said.
About half a dozen senior Delhi police officers remained camped in Faridabad on Saturday, trying to convince the yatris not to enter Delhi as Parliament was in session.
The activists are protesting against the ‘lackadaisical’ attitude of the central government in cleaning the Yamuna.
Mathura Road in Delhi is likely to witness chaos on Monday. Traffic police has issued an advisory, asking people to avoid that road.
