Child Rights panel to hold RTE meet on March 9

Bangalore: The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights will organise a round table conference  to solicit suggestions and feedback from various stakeholders for effective implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act on March 9.

The conference will be held in accordance with the High Court directions. The court asked the State government in January to hold a seminar to clear the air over the confusion shrouding RTE in the areas of fee structure, admission procedure and others.

“Officials from the Department of Women and Child Development will hold a consultation with the concerned stakeholders and will compile a list will be sent to us before the conference,” said KSCPCR Chairman H R Umesh Aradhya.

The conference will focus on the 25 per cent RTE quota, reimbursement of fees, use of educational cess collected by the government, documents to be submitted for RTE admissions, corporal punishment, no detention clause and other issues.

The conference, which will be held at Shikshakara Sadan, will involve parents associations, unaided schools, minority schools, teachers, government officials, activists and others.
