Jalna: The chief judicial magistrate has ordered the Kadim Jalna police to register a case against the chief officer of the Jalna Municipal Council (JMC) for allegedly abusing and threatening Right to Information (RTI) activist Ajit Kothari.
According to the case filed, on March 19, 2010, RTI activist Kothari had filed an application with the chief officer and sought information regarding the installation of borewells in the town, but JMC chief Babasaheb Manohre refused to give him the information.
Later, Kothari approached the State Information Commission which directed Manohre to give Kothari the information.
On November 27, 2012, Kothari approached Manohre and asked him to give him the information.
Instead of providing the information, Manohre allegedly abused Kothari, threatening him with dire consequences if he asked for more information.
An aggrieved Kothari approached the Kadim Jalna police station and filed a complaint against Manohre, but the police refused to register the complaint.
Kothari then approached the court and filed a petition for justice through advocate D M Wagh.
Chief judicial magistrate, S K Bangad examined the case and ordered the Kadim Jalna police station to register a case under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code against Manohre.
