Mundra SEZ of Adani de-notified

The Commerce Ministry has cancelled the proposed 1,840-hectare multi-product special economic zone (SEZ) project being developed by the Adani group at Mundra in Gujarat for violation of norms.
The Adani Port and SEZ (APSEZ) project was de-notified as the proposal did not conform to contiguity norms, and was in violation of the rule, which required the SEZ site to be vacant before approval was sought, officials in the Commerce Ministry said.
They said the site was land-locked without means of proper transport, alleging that the Adani group violated norms on this account.
An APSEZ spokesperson said the company had over 6,473 hectares of notified multi-product SEZ which had no relation to the denotified SEZ.
“We had sought clearance for this additional land measuring 1,840 hectares for expansion in future. The clearance was turned down as the authorities felt that the proposed area lacked contiguity. We will seek clearance for this additional area in due course,’’ it added.
The SEZ, which is adjacent to the existing tax-free zone of the company at the same place, was notified in March.
