The monsoon is expected to advance further in northern parts of the country in two to three days, director of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) S. C. Bhan, assured here on Thursday.
Bhan predicted that the monsoon would reach Punjab, Haryana and Delhi within two to three days.
“It is expected that incoming two to three days it (monsoon) will cover some parts of southern Rajasthan, some parts of Uttar Pradesh and rest of the parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. It will also reach Punjab and Haryana, which includes Delhi,” Bhan told reporters here.
He added that rainfall has been below normal across the country, but the deficiency would be made up.
“Rains in the entire country are less than 30 percent than normal. The deficiency would be reduced in the coming days,” Bhan said.
Earlier in the day, heavy rains lashed several parts of Uttar Pradesh, even as Mumbai continues to reel under the incessant downpour.
