A week after a professor was arrested for forwarding an e-mail containing a cartoon of Mamata Banerjee, an associate professor last night took no chances when he was tagged on the Facebook in a cartoon that showed a headless woman dressed like the Chief Minister. Dr Bickram Saha, Associate Professor of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, complained to the local police against Pallab Maitra for tagging him.
Saha accused Mitra of “circulating a cartoon that denigrates the CM”. The cops have moved the case to the CID. According to Superintendent of Police (West Midnapore) Sunil Kumar Chakraborty, who was to say the cartoon represented the CM.
It shows the woman holding a mirror with the comment “Vanish!” remarking on her missing head — exactly the word used for renegade Trinamool leader Dinesh Trivedi in the previous Mamata cartoon that got into a row.
Colleagues said Saha feared he might be arrested like Professor Ambikesh Mahapatra.
Maitra said: “I have not directly attacked anyone… Why the fear?”
While the Trinamool blamed the CPM, the new cartoon is drawing hits, with one person commenting: “Mathata vanish hoey kar ghare porbe (Head has vanished but on whose neck will it fall)?”
