Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Wednesday promised his government would provide free medical treatment of serious ailments to poor.
The Chief Minister, who flagged off an awareness rally on the World Kidney Day in the afternoon organised by Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science, said the state government would arrange the infrastructure or providing free treatment of serious ailments to the poor.
Akhilesh also said that in the last regime, his party had taken measures to ensure free treatment for the poor which was discontinued by the previous government. Referring to the UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Safai, Etawah, Akhilesh said though the SP government was criticised for establishing the hospital, people from far-off areas come there for treatment, which is done for merely Rs 35.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Ahmad Hasan and Dr RK Sharma, Director, SGPGI were also present.
