A resident of Satellite, Gunjan Mehta, submitted an application of complaint to senior city police officials after she was allegedly harassed by certain junior cops last week. The incident, according to the Mehta, took place when she had sought information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
She alleged that the police personnel with whom she spoke on this issue misbehaved with her. Mehta claimed in an application submitted to the deputy commissioner of police, Zone I, that she had enquired about a complaint registered with the city police control room about violation of the firecracker notification in her neighbourhood.
"When I did not get any response, I filed an RTIapplication on December 12. I received a call on December 16 from the city police commissioner’s office where a cop told me that he has the information I required. He asked me to collect the information from him and added that the meeting would be a pleasure for both of us," said Mehta.
She then lodged a complaint with the city police control room after which two constables approached her and suggested that she file a complaint at Anandnagar police station. However, the police officials allegedly refused to lodge a complaint and instead asked her to submit an application.
Sandeep Singh, deputy commissioner of police, Zone I, told TOI that he has ordered a probe into what happened after the city police commissioner’s office had called up Mehta. "We have sought information from the police control room," he said.
