National Democratic Alliance convener and Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav alleged on Sunday that a “Bellary-like mining scam” was going on in the Jabalpur-Satna region and demanded that Madhya Pradesh Government take action against those involved.
“In the mineral-rich region of Jabalpur, Katni, Satna, Sidhi and Singrauli, a Bellary-like mining scam is taking place as no environmental clearances were taken for carrying out mining there,” Mr. Yadav alleged at a press conference here on Sunday.
He said the State should send those indulging in illegal mining to jail and confiscate their properties as is the case in Bihar (where law allows the government to confiscate properties amassed by adopting corrupt practices) by framing a law in this regard.
The Congress had raised the issue of illegal mining in the region during the discussion on a no-confidence motion in the Assembly last week.
