Private schools are not satisfactorily implementing the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act in Panchkula district.

As per information provided by District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) to District Courts on Wednesday, only 676 students have been admitted under Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Below Poverty Line (BPL) category by 74 private schools, while many schools did not recruit a single children.

Several schools are yet to furnish information regarding implementation of RTE.

The Haryana government had notified the RTE rules on June 3, 2011, by publication in the official gazette. As per rule 12, every school existing prior to the commencement of the rules, is required to furnish Self-Declaration regarding compliance of RTE provisions within three months.

The period will expire on September 3 and thereafter every defaulter school is liable to be de-recognised as per procedure prescribed in Rule 13 of the Haryana Rules.

According to DEEO Anita Anand, meetings were held with head of all private and government aided schools and were asked to implement the provisions of RTE in letter and spirit.

“The letters were also issued to all the headmasters of the schools to provide a list of students, who were admitted under economical weaker section category in their schools and reminders were also issued.

“The reports are awaited from several schools in this regard,” said Anand.
