Activists also declared that they would soon form a union or association to ensure protection of those who have been fighting against corruption in the system using RTI.
Organised by the NGO CRANTI (Citizens Resource and Actions Initiatives), the dharna was held at Sardarbaug in Lal Darwaja and saw the participation of RTI activists across the state.
Family members of Amit Jethava and other activists who had been attacked also marked their presence at the protest.
Talking to media, activist Mallika Sarabhai said, "It has been difficult to get information on anything in Gujarat. The recent attacks on RTI activists are proof of this. The state government has decided to keep a watch over RTI activists to instil fear among them. But we are not going to be intimidated by this and will continue our struggle."
Sarabhai also called the situation in Gujarat Emergency-like. "We activists need to come together and fight those trying to suppress the implementation of RTI Act in the state," she said.
