Chandigarh: Haryana has generated 83.83 lakh man-days during 2010-11 as against the approved budget for 78.46 lakh man-days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
The information was given at a meeting of the Committee of Secretaries on Rural Development chaired by State Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati here on Friday.
Ms. Gulati said that of the total man-days at least 50 per cent employment should be provided to women under this scheme.
She directed other departments for convergence of MGNREGS with funds from other sources for creation of durable assets as permissible under the guidelines of the Centre.
It was also revealed that the labour budget for 86 lakh days had been approved for the current financial year.
A total of 7,164 works were completed during the last financial year as compared to 4,070 completed in 2009-10 under the scheme.
It was disclosed that a total of about Rs.215 crore had been spent under MGNREGS during 2010-11 compared to Rs.143.56 crore spent during 2009-10.
More than 2.34 lakh families were provided employment in 2010-11 compared to over 1.52 lakh families covered under the scheme in the previous year.
A total of 5,579 works were under progress in the last financial year.
In all, employment of 29 lakh days was provided to women, which was 35 per cent of the total employment provided. – PTI
