Farmers from Mahuva, Mithivirdi, Jasapara, Khadarpar, Mandva and surrounding villages participated in the meet which was called by Gram Swaraj Samiti. Noted Gandhian Chunibhai Vaidhya, Ila Pathak, former finance minister Sanat Mehta, MLA from Mahuva Dr K Kalsariya, Virji Jasaji of Kisan Sangh, former home minister and MJP leader Gordhan Jadhafiya, Youth Congress president Indravijaysinh Gohil, Balubhai Tanti and other addressed the farmers at Jasapar.
Village sarpanch of Jasapar Shaktisinh Gohil said, "We have been campaigning for the last three years and our movement has now gained momentum. We are getting support from various political parties and all walks of life. We started a fight using different means and opposed the move to set up a nuclear power station over her. After the Japan incident, we are concerned and not ready to part with our fertile land for this kind of project."
Dr Kalsariya, who successfully gave a fight to Nirma for the farmers’ benefit, said, "In Mahuva, we were late in taking an action. Here, people are already awake. All you need is to unite and fight back." Addressing the farmers, Sanat Mehta said, "Whether it is the state or central government, their policies are anti-farmer. If it is safe to set up a nuclear power project, then why don’t they set up this plant in Gandhinagar or Delhi? All the claims of safety are hollow."
