Haryana urges Centre to speed up wheat stock movement

Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow rate of stock movement from Haryana, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday urged Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution K. V. Thomas to speed up the movement of wheat stock procured by various procurement agencies.

An official spokesman said that Mr. Hooda met the Union Minister here.

Prof. Thomas appreciated the procurement process in the State and said that Haryana was doing well.

The Chief Minister’s request for “distribution of five kilograms of bajra to the Above Poverty Line (APL) consumers in Haryana for the next five months was also accepted by the Union Minister, the spokesman added.

Storing facilities

Mr. Hooda also demanded assistance to set up silos for storing foodgrains in bulk.

Stating that the agro-climatic conditions in Haryana and Punjab were similar, he said that the two neighbouring States should be “kept on equal footing and our farmers should also get their due.”

Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Chhatar Singh and senior officers of Haryana Food and Supplies and Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department were also present.
