Initially the work of preparing Unique Identity Cards was underway in five districts _ Hoshangabad, Harda, Dewas, Shajapur and Burhanpur _. The first phase work in these districts has been completed and the second phase will start from May. Under the second phase, cards for those persons will be prepared, who had remained uncovered in the first phase. Besides these districts, the process of making UIDs is underway at the divisional headquarters as well. Data of about 50 lakh people have been collected so far.
Two persons from Hoshangabad have become the first to enjoy the pride of procuring unique identification code (UID) in February this year. The beneficiaries, Kamlesh Kumar Bhadrele and Santosh Kumar Kahar were handed over the card during Antodaya Mela organised recently. On trial basis, the registration for UID was started from Hoshangabad. For this, camps were held to register the name of the people.
The employees engaged in the registration work have also been imparted training in the State.
In the next phase, the work of preparing UIDs will be undertaken in other districts including districts of Narmadapuram, Indore and Shahdol divisions. After preparation of Unique Identity
Cards, the benefits of Food Coupon (Ration Card) will reach the eligible beneficiaries alone and bogus cardholders will be weeded out. Food Coupons are now being made on this basis and their number is increasing rapidly. Similar experiment will also be made in MGNREGA and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The State treasuries will also use UIDs in the context of State Government employees.
