The Rural Ministry of Government of India has written a letter to State Government in which it has been directed that corruption and criminal cases pertaining to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) should be investigated seriously and satisfactory action should be taken against the guilty officers.
The Rural Ministry added that if this were not done then Centre would hand over these cases to CBI and take action against guilty. Besides this the payment of the next installment for this scheme will be stalled. After this letter has been received from Centre the corrupt officers of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) have been unnerved. According to information received from sources Central Government has adopted strict attitude about corruption in MGNREGS.
Centre is of the opinion that State Government has not taken effective action on corrupt officers but if still action is not taken then Centre will hand over cases to CBI and get the matter probed. For this purpose Centre has sent reminder to State government.
