The move has been taken by the administration after Union rural development secretary B K Sinha expressed dissatisfaction over MGNREGS work during his recent visit here. Sinha had visited Bathua village in Chas Block to inquire into the killing of MGNREGS worker Subal Mahto by his contractor Bhagirath Rajwar over payment dispute related to digging of well.
Bokaro DC Amitabh Kaushal has directed block development officers (BDOs), block programme officers (BPOs) and panchayat sewaks who are responsible for carrying out MGNREGS work to perform it according to norms. Negligence by officials and workers while carrying out the work would be dealt with firmly, he said.
"We have acquainted officials and staff with the MGNREGS provisions to ensure that no norms should be violated in implementing the work. The officials had visited each block of the district to assess the work being conducted under MGNREGS," said Kaushal.
According to sources, officials during inspection have found lacuna in implementation of the scheme in a few places which are being rectified. The administration has geared up to avoid such repetition again.
On March 13 after the visit of Sinha, the district administration had suspended Chas BPO Prabhat Ranjan and directed departmental proceeding against in charge supervisor Arun Kumar Rai in connection with irregularities found in digging of well under MGNREGS at Rajwar’s land. The DC also dismissed gram rojgar sevika Babita Kumari and panchayat sewak Dhirendra Kumar finding their involvement in irregularity.
