While stating this here on Wednesday, an official spokesman said UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh honoured the panchayat in a function organised in New Delhi to mark the fifth anniversary of the scheme.
MGNREGA was introduced in district Sirsa from village Bhavdin on February 2,2006.
He said that a team of rural development ministry led by BK Sinha, secretary in the ministry, visited the village on May 20 and 21 last year and interacted with the people. The team took stock of the development works undertaken under MGNREGA.
The rural job scheme would prove a milestone in the rural development if keen interest was shown by all the panchayats in the implementation of the scheme, he said. A sum of Rs 3.25 crore had already been spent on various development works undertaken in village Kalunana under the MGNREGA.
The development works undertaken under the scheme included levelling of 68 acres panchayat land, to set up garden at five acres of Scheduled Castes panchayati land, plantation over Government and panchayati land and raising nursery.
Besides, check dams were constructed and water for irrigation was also provided for the panchayati land and other land of the farmers by installing tube-wells along Indira Gandhi canal passing by the border of Haryana under the scheme.
Besides water courses, big water works for providing drinking water to the dhanies were also constructed under the scheme, he added.
The spokesman said that a sum of Rs 428.54 crore had been spent in the state out of the total amount of Rs 431.34 crore released under MGNREGA upto December 2010 since its inception.
As many as over 5.65 lakh households were provided work under the scheme.
As many as 12,595 development works had already been completed and employment of 214.96 lakh person days was generated under the scheme.
