Dissident JD(U) leader to explain the source of his assets on February 2
Rebel Janata Dal (United) Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Prasad Kushwaha on Sunday asked the Ministers in Bihar’s National Democratic Alliance government to explain the source of their assets.“The Ministers in the NDA government should try to come clean on their properties and assets by explaining the source,” he told journalists here, adding that he would take the initiative by explaining the source of his assets on February 2.
Mr. Kushwaha, who is facing disciplinary action from the JD(U) for alleged anti-party activities during last year’s Assembly elections, said the declaration of the assets by NDA Ministers on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s direction was not sufficient as the public wanted to know their source.
The Bihar government’s crusade against corruption will not make headway if the politicians, including Ministers, fail to explain the source of their wealth, the dissident JD(U) leader said.
Charging the JD(U) leadership with adopting a different yardstick for seeking investigation into the assets of the Ministers from the party quota, Mr. Kushwaha said the ruling party should follow a consistent policy if it wants the drive against corruption to succeed.
Referring to the ongoing disciplinary process underway against him, he said he had already replied in writing to the show cause notice to party national president Sharad Yadav and State unit chief Vashishth Narayan Singh, and that he was ready to appear before the party leadership.
On the future course of action, the rebel JD(U) leader said that he would like to remain with the party. — PTI
