Mayawati sanctions Rs 312 crore for poor

In view of prevailing cold wave conditions in the state Chief Minister Mayawati has sanctioned Rs 3.12 crore for providing temporary shelter,food, clothes and medical facilities to the poor.

The money would be used to provide bonfires, blankets and medical help to the destitutes and the homeless poor people, Government spokesman said here on Thursday.

He said state government has provided Rs 1 lakh to each of the 312 tehsils of the state to provide shelter, food, clothes, blankets and medical facilities.

District Magistrates, Nagar Ayukts, executive officers of the local bodies and officers of the other concerning departments have been asked to provide proper shelter for the poor and the destitute.

"District Magistrates have been asked to constitute teams of senior officers to check conditions of `Ran Baseras’ at night and bonfiresbeing lit at the public places," spokesman said and added that teams should also check whether all facilities like shelter, food etc were provided to them.

Officers of the medical department have been asked to provide adequate medical facilities in the rural and urban areas.

CM warned that any laxity in this count would not be tolerated at any cost.
