Domestic help offered Rs. 10,000 to take the blame
In yet another case of ‘honour killing’ in Rohtak, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly murdered at the behest of her father because he suspected her of having an affair with a neighbourhood boy. An accomplice has been nabbed while Umed Singh, the father of the girl, is on the run.
The teenager was reported missing from her house in Chamanpura village of Rohtak in Haryana on December 2 and her father had lodged a missing complaint with the police, saying that he suspected three of her classmates.
However, during investigation, the police found the youths to be innocent.
Meanwhile, the body of the girl was found on December 22 in a drain outside the city. The police arrested Mohan, Singh’s domestic help, on Saturday.
The girl’s father plotted the murder and asked the domestic help to execute the killing and dispose of the body, the police stated.
According to the police, the father asked Mohan not to divulge anything and offered Rs. 10,000 to him.
“The servant has confessed to the crime. The motive has been established as ‘honour killing’. We have collected credible evidence and arrested the servant,” said B Satish Balan, SP, Rohtak.
“Singh took his daughter to the fields on the outskirts of the village on December 2. Mohan then strangled her and buried the body in the fields. But when it started stinking, they dumped the body in a drain on December 3,” Mr. Balan added.
The post mortem has confirmed that she had been strangulated, the police said.
