Ryots’ woes high on Assembly agenda

In a show of unanimity, the government and the Opposition parties have decided to set aside the question hour and take up a short discussion on farmers’ problems on the opening day of the short session of the Legislature beginning here on Friday.
The Assembly session will last till December 16, that is sittings for just six days. At a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held here on Thursday, the government rejected the Opposition’s demand to reconvene the House from December 20 to 24. Instead, it agreed to hold a sitting on Saturday, normally a holiday.
On Tuesday, the Assembly will sit in the evening to adopt Bills. As many as five Bills and six replacing ordinances are pending, including the one promulgated to regulate the functioning of micro-finance institutions (MFIs).
The burning issue of separate Telangana, MRPS agitation on categorisation of SCs, suicides by MFI loan borrowers, recruitment of sub-inspectors, Emaar properties controversy and State’s financial position are some of the important issues on which the Opposition parties will try to corner the government in both the Houses.
This will be the first session after the victory of 11 TRS members in byelections and after N. Kiran Kumar Reddy took over as Chief Minister. He will also be the Leader of the House in the Assembly instead of J. Geeta Reddy, who used to perform this duty as the previous Chief Minister K. Rosaiah represented the Legislative Council.
