Orissa Government to move SC over Khandadhar mines on Oct 29


The state government is likely to file a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court on October 29 Challenging  the judgement  of  the Orissa High Court to set aside recommendation of prospecting license (PL) in favour of Posco  .

As per section 11 (5) of Mining and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act, the state government  will  urge the Apex court to lease out Khandadhar mines on the basis of merit and special reason.

According to sources, secretary of the steel and mines department had been consulting legal experts in this regard at New Delhi.

The Minister of Steel and Mines Raghunath Mohanty expressed here on Tuesday  that Though 90 days period from the date of the judgment have passed, we will file  Special Leave Petition (SLP) basing on date of receipt of the judgement copy of the Orissa High Court
