The padayatra will culminate on November 3. On the next day, the farmers will stage a protest in front of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s residence. Former chief minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy, senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah and CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury will participate. The district administration had agreed on Rs 16 lakh per acre for plots within 500 metres of the national highway and Rs 12 lakh per acre for plots toward the interiors. But the farmers were unhappy with the price as the Kuditini region would come under the steel zone and was also located close to both the upcoming airport near Sirwara and Jindal airport. Various political parties and organizations are also extending their support to the farmers’ protest. The padayatra was flagged off by Karnataka Pratha Raitha Sangha leader Maruthi Manpade.
