State Rural Development Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh has written to B K Sinha, Secretary (Union Rural Development department) on Friday, saying that it has become difficult to provide employment under MNREGS due to paucity of funds. “There are several gram panchayats and executing agencies without any funds in UP. This is creating a situation, where it is becoming difficult to comply with the mandate to provide employment on demand in 15 days,” he wrote. Singh had also attached the letters, which he had received from various gram panchayats in this regard. For instance, in Gonda, almost 800 out of 1,054 panchayats have stopped MNREGS work due to non-availability of funds.
